The Office of Research is hosting a grant writing seminar on October 6th 2025 on the University of Florida Main Campus. The seminar comprehensively address practical, conceptual, and rhetorical aspects of writing competitive grant proposals.
About the program

The Grant Writers’ Seminar provides training for researchers in how to write a better grant proposal.
The seminar emphasizes the principles and fundamentals of good grantsmanship, as well as practical tips and strategies that are designed to optimize the competitiveness of an application.

Write Winning Grant Proposals
An all-day seminar on October 6th, Write Winning Grant Proposals teaches participants to write competitive NIH grants that present their project clearly, compellingly, and accessibly for different audiences.
- Covers both practical and conceptual aspects of the proposal-writing process.
- Emphasizes idea development, choosing the right granting agency, writing for reviewers, and proven strategies to strengthen an applicant’s case.
- Trains participants to write with a logical, linear progression to guide reviewers through applications.
- Highlights the need to address two audiences: assigned reviewers and non-assigned reviewers.
- Focuses on NIH proposals, with strategies and tools aimed at achieving a fundable priority score.

Presented by John D. Robertson, Ph.D.
Dr. John Robertson holds a Doctorate in Pharmacology/Toxicology and has been an Associate Member at Grant Writers’ Seminars & Workshops since 2010. In 2017 he became the Managing Member. He has been the recipient of competitive extramural funding from both the NIH and non-federal sources. He has authored 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and three book chapters. In addition, he has been a member of grant review panels, a reviewer for a number of biomedical journals, and served on editorial boards. He has also been routinely recognized for excellence in teaching.
