Celebration of Research Poster abstract Submissions

We welcome abstracts from various disciplines and research areas written by College of Medicine trainees, staff, faculty, and other affiliates. No matter where you are on your research journey, your work is vital to our collective understanding. Our Celebration of Research is a celebration of you – an opportunity to highlight the breadth and diversity of science you bring to our college!

We are requesting a robust abstract, including:

  • Up to 500 words
  • Up to 2 figures or tables
  • OPTIONAL: A visual abstract with the full poster title and authors (more details below).

Posters received after the December 4th deadline may be accepted on a rolling basis. If capacity is reached, we will prioritize one poster per primary author and submissions from trainees.

Poster awards

Once again, the College of Medicine Office of Research will be recognizing top submissions with Outstanding Poster Awards. These awards recognize the most outstanding posters with categories to recognize individuals at various career stages and in several major areas of focus within the College. Only the primary author (first presenter) of the poster, as entered in the submission form, will be eligible for the award. Details about the award categories and criteria can be found here.

  • Judging for awards will be based on abstracts submitted by the deadline of December 4th, 2024.
  • Posters submitted on time through the online portal will be considered for an award IF they check the box on the submission form indicating they choose to be included in the poster competition.

Outstanding Poster awards will be given in each of the following categories:

  • Clinical Sciences
  • Data Sciences or Artificial Intelligence
  • Basic and Translational Sciences
  • New Opportunity Award – for research into topics related to health equity, community health or inclusion

In each category, one award will be given at each of the following career stages, based on the primary (presenting) author’s status at the time of the poster session:

  • Predoctoral Level: Medical, Physician Assistant, PhD, and Masters students
  • Postdoctoral Level: Postdoctoral Fellows/Associates, Medical Residents, and Fellows
  • Early Stage Investigators (College of Medicine faculty members within 10 years of career initiation)
  • Undergraduate Students

New this year!

We are adding a new e-poster session and will be offering the chance for top poster authors to present their work in short presentations during the poster session. To be considered for this opportunity, you need to “opt in” for the poster award review. Selected authors will present in a small group of faculty and other authors. We hope this opportunity will enhance the feedback presenters receive and instigate stimulating conversations. For this first year, presentation slots will be limited to students.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The nominee must be listed as the first presenter of a poster (according to the submission system) submitted on time on the Fourwaves site
  • Must have current affiliation with UF College of Medicine
  • May optionally submit a visual abstract as part of your abstract submission.
    • A visual abstract (VA) is a simple and accessible way to convey an overview of your research. A VA begins with a key question and background info on the study. It ends with icons that represent main ideas from the research and a brief description of the outcomes. That’s all! Be sure to include straightforward imagery and not overly complex graphs or charts pulled from your study. Include citations and authors where needed.
    • For more information on visual abstracts and how to create one, the UF Health Creative Services team has put together this resource.
