Request for Proposals
The Thomas H. Maren Research Excellence Award provides supplemental funding for promising researchers at the postdoctoral level in the College of Medicine. Award amount is $20,000 per year for two years (2nd year contingent on 1st year progress).
Eligibility
- Must be a postdoctoral associate or fellow (with a PhD and/or MD) with a full-time research assignment in a College of Medicine department
- Must have at least two years remaining on your postdoctoral appointment, but no more than three (3) years of cumulative postdoctoral training at the time of letter of intent submission
- Must have demonstrated productivity as a postdoctoral associate or fellow, such as at least one primary, peer reviewed research article from their postdoctoral work by the time of application submission. Articles in press or submitted for review, should be available publicly (e.g. BioRxiv)
- Mentor must have at least two years of research funding left on a R01 or equivalent grant
LOI package should include:
- One page letter of intent (LOI) document that includes name of candidate, current department, mentor name, date of hire, as well as a brief summary of proposed project (300 word maximum)
- A statement that describes the applicant’s outstanding research accomplishments, including awards, publications and grant funding received; the creative and innovative nature of the proposed research; and the project’s potential to lead to extramural funding (2-page maximum).
- current Biosketch (NIH format) that includes current and past funding (if applicable)
- Mentor’s current NIH biosketch
Submit your Letter of Intent (LOI) package no later than 11:59pm on Monday, October 7, 2024. LOIs will be reviewed, and up to ten (10) full proposals will be invited on or around October 14, 2024. Invited full proposals will be due on or around November 12, 2024.
